I like this interpretation of Mendoza- it really helps explain why he is the way he is. I personally think he's less bloodthirsty in the series, but it makes for an interesting read and does make a lot of sense. Very interesting so far... I'm thinking Mendoza threatening a child with his sword might be a bit much- even if he was a little freaked out. I like the idea of this (time travel?) scenario.
